History
In June, 2014 the Board created the ad hoc Committee on Governance, Policy, and Communications (GPC). The committee consisted of Nancy Buell, Jeff Means, and Ginger Shaughnessy; David Locke served as Board liaison for the first several months. The mission was to recommend to the Board improvements in matters pertaining to Board governance, policies and communications.
One of the first activities of the committee was to conduct a members survey to collect data on the current views of the membership concerning IPA governance, policies and communications. Over 45 replies were received and were used, in part, as the basis for the development of detailed recommendations documented in a number of reports on a wide variety of subjects.
The complete list of GPC work products is provided below, with links to the actual documents. For example the Renters' Guide was completely rewritten, and a Members' guide created. Many of the changes recommended in these reports have already been implemented by the Board to improve communications and increase transparency with members and to add flexibility to operating and governance procedures. The last of the GPC documents were submitted to the Board in March, 2015, when the GPC concluded its activities.
